How We Met

Friday's Show Us Your Life was "How You Met Your Husband." I didn't have to time to blog about it then but I am doing it now. Better late than never.

FBC Rockwall was the place where it all started. I joined the church in 2005 and Brian had been a member there for a while. I began getting involved in our Twentysomething Sunday School Class and Brian was helping teach the college Sunday School class. We were acquantances for a while and attended different church things together like Rangers games, bible study, etc...

In the beginning of 2007 we began hanging out with a smaller group of friends and enjoyed getting together a lot. I remember in April 2007, Brian flew out to California for a friend's wedding and I thought, I miss seeing him but I tried not to think about it because he probably didn't feel the same way ( but he did ). We didn't let each other know that but we started becoming closer friends and talked most every night for hours. By July, I was trying to make it clear that I would be interested in going if he just asked...finally on August 5 he asked me out with this line "So you want to do this or what?" Be still my heart...haha...but of course, I said yes!

This was our first picture together as boyfriend/girlfriend

However, after three months of dating, Brian and I decided that we would be better as really good friends instead of dating. It was a mutual decision and we thought we could just be friends and not let our feelings get in the way. We made it a month and realized that we cared for each other too much to not try again. The rest is history!

Our first New Year's Eve together

Brian proposed to me in Tampa, FL after one of the Women of Faith events I was working and we were married on April 4, 2009 at the same place we first met, First Baptist Church of Rockwall.

Austria

Today's Show Us Your Life is Mission Trips. I was so excited when I saw it because I was able to go find my travel books and look at the pictures from my mission trip to Vienna, Austria in 2003. I was able to go with my church that I attended while in college at SFA - Fredonia Hill Baptist Church. Our pastor had been a missionary in Austria so he had a heart for that area and wanted a group of people to go. God completely blessed the finances that provided me to go - with so many people's support I was able to go and spread His word.

Our big airplane

This was the first time I had flown overseas. We left from George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston and flew to Amsterdam for our layover to Vienna.

The King's Palace in Amsterdam

We had about 8 hours to visit Amsterdam so we packed in everything that we could. Please note in all these photos I am pale white and had short hair. In the Amsterdam pics I look exhausted also b/c we were all jet lagged but didn't want to miss seeing all we could on our layover.

Anne Frank's House which is now a Museum

Once we made it Vienna we were ready to work the Baseball Camp. We had a baseball camp for all of the kids to come b/c of course we couldn't say Vacation Bible School or anything because the government would not allow it. While these kids may have heard of God, they only attend church maybe on Easter and Christmas. They do not know what a true relationship with Christ is all about so the missionary in Austria, Lance, who we were coming to help had invited all the kids for a Baseball Camp.

My friend JCole and I were head of a team and we played baseball all week long. I ask my team what they wanted to be called and they all decided to be called the "Stars." It was so fun to play all week long and form relationships with these kids. Most kids knew English but some only spoke German but thankfully there were some older kids there to translate for us.

Our Team - The Stars :)

Our last day I was able to give my testimony to the kids. LaRissa translated for me - it's hard to talk, let her translate, talk again and regain your train of thought but I'm so glad I was able to do it.

Our Mission Team - The Missionary family, Lance, Carrie, Tyler and Emily and our Mission Team Chris, Steffan, J Cole, LaRissa, Christ and Michelle. The mission team leader, Jeff, was taking the picture

I was in Austria for my 21st birthday. We celebrated by going to a castle in Koernsburg, Austria. It was estroyed in WWI but the owner rebulit it and it was beautiful.

Inside the castle

And the final celebration was to get another stamp on my passport. We drove about 45 minutes to go to the Czech Republic. We stayed for a little while and then headed back. I loved it!

It was so fun going back and looking at these pictures. I hadn't looked at them in along time. I'm so glad that I was able to take advantage of this opportunity. I showed a little of what we did outside of the mission trip b/c I think European architecture is amazing so I wanted to share it. I'm thinking I may have to scan more pictures b/c I have so many of the many things I was able to see in Vienna.

Like I said in my previous post, even if you aren't able to go yourself on a mission trip, when you give to someone going, a part of you is there. I felt I had so many people with me in Austria b/c they had given so I could share the Word of God to these people.

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always until the very end of the age."

Collections, Part 2

E is for Estes and I enjoy collecting anything with the letter E on it. When Brian and I got married, we got so many cute things with the letter E on it and since we've been married we've gotten a lot more. There are lots of E's in our house now and I love it. Again, Hobby Lobby is just where I go when I'm in need of another E :)

Collections, Part 1

Today's Show Us Your Life is Collections. I have collected crosses for a while now. I enjoy going to Mardel and looking at all of the beautiful crosses. I also love the ones at Hobby Lobby. The cross is where the ultimate sacrifice took place and is where we are to be - at the foot of the cross.

I have many crosses that I've bought and many that have been given to me as gifts. I can't wait to have a new place to put out all of my crosses. Since we have limited space right now, some are in storage waiting to be displayed.

Next blog, I will show you what I've been collecting since I've been married.

Favorite Vacation Spot

So I have come across Kelly's Korner - thanks to my friend Joy - a blog that has been around for a while but I'm just now getting to it. Every Friday, she has the "Show Us Your Life" Blog and she gives us a theme and you blog about it. The past few have been wedding related and since I just blogged not too long ago about our wedding, I thought I would wait until there was a new theme so today's is our Favorite Vacation Spots and mine is THE BEACH - anyone - just take me there!! Happy Friday!

I love the beach! I would love to be at the beach anywhere - it is so relaxing to me and I love watching the sunset over the water. It is just a beautiful painting that God has given us. I'm so glad Brian and I went on a cruise on our honeymoon b/c we were able to go to three different beaches and they were all great.

I have been blessed to be able to go to Hawaii and be on Waikiki Beach - I have pictures but it was before digital cameras ... haha so I will have to scan them in sometime and put them up!

What is your favorite vacation spot?
