Too Close for Comfort

Tuesday, April 3, 2012. I didn't know when I woke up that morning that I would spend some of the afternoon in the closet praying for safety from the storm. Tornadoes. Living in Texas you know about them and the Spring brings lots of them to us. I've just never had one this close.

Brian's aunt was going to come and get Mallory for the afternoon and she texted me to tell me she was in Balch Springs and it was getting bad and she wasn't leaving any time soon. I completely understood and turned on the TV for weather updates and didn't turn away. I thought when the first wave of storms went through that we were fine and missed us. I laid Mallory down for her nap and not 20 mins later, it started hailing and it got black outside.

I called Brian and told him I was getting Mallory and we were getting in our closet. I realized then that I am such a woman - wishing my man was with us to fill safer but I knew what I had to do. I got Mallory and we set up camp in the closet. I tried to keep her asleep but she woke up and I'm sure was wondering why I woke her up to move her to the closet? I held her tight and prayed and thankfully, we were safe!

You can tell she had just woken up but I had to take a picture of us hanging out in the closet.

Mallory saw all the hangers so, I pulled them down to play with them. Happy that it only takes little things to keep her entertained.

Once she was through with the hangers, we turned on the iPad to watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse

Once the storm passed, we exited our temporary place and Mallory went back to sleep.

The aftermath of the closet - I am grateful for technology for sure!

I know a lot of people lost their homes and possessions due to this storm and they are all in our prayers. Days like these really make you put things into perspective and I hug my family extra tight.
