Where I Would Be...

Hello friends. Not a whole lot going on from the confines of the townhome but I was looking at my high school friend's facebooks and was reminded that this week was Wildflower Trails in my hometown. In case you didn't know, I grew up in a small town in Northeast Texas - Hughes Springs. When people ask where I'm from, I usually just say East Texas because I know most people have never heard of HS and it's too hard to explain how to get there. But I did live there until I graduated from High School and I loved every minute of it.

As in any small town, we did have our big time events and this is the week of Wildflower Trails. Each April, the carnival would come to town, all of the vendors would set up in Spring Park and Wednesday - Saturday everybody would be downtown riding rides, listening to music and eating all the good food.

The last couple of years, I've been traveling for work the week of Wildflower Trails but this year I was really hoping to go. No Go. I'm on the couch so I've told Brian, next year, we can take Mallory. I could tell he was really excited about it.

Our carnival rides were your typical rides that you weren't sure all the screws were all screwed in right, but you still rode because when else are rides like this coming to town? I know all you city folk laugh because there's Six Flags and other big places to go but remember this was our one big thing of the year so I rode the Star, Octopus, Ferris Wheel, Sizzler, all to my hearts content. (Yes, those were the actual names of the rides).

To be honest, the best thing about Wildflower Trails, is the food. Including Corn Dog 7. Yummy! Corn Dog 7 was started in Hughes Springs and their office was there. You can still get a good corn dog from them at fairs and Canton. Just thinking of it now makes me crave it. So I'm stopping.

Story Time: I remember one year when I was in junior high, I was on the Math Team (nerd alert) and I had a very expensive calculator that I used for it. Well, I left it in our buggy when we went to Wal Mart one weekend and it was never to be found again. I mean, really, who would want a calculator??? I digress. I mean this was over 15 years ago. Anyway, I got grounded from Wildflower Trails that year and couldn't ride any rides since I had to pay the money back for the calculator. Talk about a sad year. I know they say you don't remember some things in your past, but I will never forget this. Such a sad week - Mom & Dad: lesson learned. Forgive me, I'm still getting over it.

So there's my small town flashback for the day. I wish I was there to see all my friends but hopefully next year, I'll be riding the Sizzler with all my HS friends. Thanks for going down memory lane with me. Good times. Great Memories.

This made me wish that we could go too! Maybe next year we can all take a trip to HS and go together. And let Joyce babysit for us :)
