A Little Miracle

Two weeks ago today I got a call from my friend Lacey that I will never forget. Between tears and sobs, I was able to talk to her and she told me words the Doctor had just told her: we need to pray for a miracle. Ryan and Lacey's daughter Jacey was born a healthy baby girl on Wednesday, Dec. 19. Lacey was pretty sure she just was never coming out - ha! Tuesday morning, Christmas morning, I got a text and email from a friend saying they were rushing Jacey to the hospital. About 2 hours later, I got a call from Lacey saying that Jacey was having seizures and that she had a massive brain bleed. When they got to Children's Hospital, they met with the Doctor. He showed them an MRI of Jacey's brain and Lacey said all that you could see was blood. Lacey said the Dr told them to pray for a miracle because they were pretty certain it was an AVM that would require brain surgery. So, we all began praying and praying. 

And they got their miracle! It was not an AVM and thankfully the bleed was in the best place it could be, the ventricles, not in any structural parts of the brain which means very little damage! 

This picture is when Ryan and Lacey finally got to hold Jacey the day after Christmas. While there was good news about where the bleeding of the brain was, there were/are still a lot of unanswered questions. Jacey's been in the NICU since Christmas Day. There were a couple of times they thought they would be out NICU and even headed home but they've had some set backs. Jacey is on and will be on anti-seizure medication for a least the first two years of her life. This past week she had a fever that she finally was able to get rid of and lately she has been spitting up most of the milk she's taken. Her blood pressure is also high so they are trying to figure out it if is something with her heart or if it has something to do with the brain bleed.

A couple of days ago, Lacey sent me this picture of Jacey with no tubes on her and just hanging out. I just keep looking at it and thanking God for this miracle.

Sunday afternoon, me and some friends from our Sunday School class headed to the hospital to see Lacey. Since Jacey's in the NICU, and the flu/cold season is at it's worst, basically no one can get up there to see any of the babies. We knew we may not get to see Lacey for long but we were just happy to get up there and hug her neck.

Thankfully, she was eating in the cafeteria so we got to talk to her for a good bit while she was eating her late lunch. We put together a gift basket full of snacks, magazines, gift cards, etc... you name it, it was probably in there. Lacey hasn't been home since Christmas - she and Ryan have been staying at a hotel by the hospital and she just got moved to a room with a bed so she could stay with Lacey since she is pumping and feeding her. When I got to hug her neck, we were both pretty emotional because but I think it does her good to see friends and us good to see her. 

Sitting with her and hearing all that God has seen them through and how much she and Ryan have prayed and trusted God through this whole ordeal was amazing. I was in awe of her strength as a Christian and a mother. She had said that she prayed that if God wanted to take Jacey that Jacey was His but also prayed if Jacey did have brain damage that they would raise her and would be so happy that she was still here with them on Earth. She says we were a blessing to her by our prayers and gifts but I feel she is being a blessing to all of us.

If you would, please say a prayer for Jacey, Lacey, Ryan and Jaden. Jaden has been staying with family members and friends. Lacey said he's holding up pretty well through it all which is saying a lot for a 4 year old! We know God is in the miracle business and still has many more miracles to give!
